Although it is possible to stumble upon a scene such as this, it is usually easier to use Sun or Moon Altitude/Azimuth Tables to determine when these events happen. What is hard to figure out is how the light may play. That is exactly what happened here. Although it was to be shot in color, the quality of light was so poor that I was forced to convert it to Black and White.

No. This is not a composite image like Lincoln's Portrait. It is hard to shoot the moon and the scape together other than during sunrise or sunsets because of large variations in exposure.
