All Liars...

All Liars...

Why single out just the liars? The quoted verse, Revelation 21:8 is pretty specific: "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death".

A few years ago, someone introduced himself to me and told me that he was spreading God's word. After a few minutes he asked me if I had ever lied. I told him, "I try very hard not to lie - even white lies". Then he preached me about how I would never be forgiven for committing the sin of lying unless... Can you imagine what my reaction would be if he had asked me if I had ever murdered. Or committed immoral sexual acts. Or practiced witchcraft.

Lying is singled out from the verse because it is bait. Everyone lies, but doesn't think too much of it. It sets up the conversation and the preaching that follows. But, isn't that a type of lie itself?
