Black-necked Stilt; Pink Stilettos

Black-necked Stilt; Pink Stilettos

The Black-Necked Stilt are easily identifiable and pretty shorebirds of the American wetlands and coastlines. They get their name (Stilt) from their proportionately long, bright pink legs with which they wade in the water.

Those that know me have probably heard me ramble on about how pink should not be worn, how it should be reserved for things that are naturally pink... Here is why: Pink definitely looks better on the stilt than on your stilettos! Quoting Oscar Wilde: "Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months... It not unfrequently violates every law of health, every principle of hygiene". *
