Parrots are among the most intelligent of birds. They are popular pets with some species having the ability to imitate human voices. The pet trade has diminished their wild populations and they have been exploited more than any other species of birds. They have long lifespans and make for sociable and affectionate pets. However they are high maintenance animals that require a lot of attention, intellectual stimulation, regular feeding and training.

This photo was taken in Brooklyn Bridge Park a few months ago. The gentleman was kind enough to allow us to photograph him with his parrot. Although I didn't think to ask, I believe the parrot pictured is a Senegal Parrot.
