Bald Eagle; Lunchtime

Bald Eagle; Lunchtime

Bald Eagles are diurnal hunters. They mostly feed on fish and are capable of seeing fish in the water from several hundred feet above. This one snatched up a fish for lunch.

Bold Eagles are not actually bald. The word bald originally meant, "white patch, blaze, especially on the head of a horse or other animal". The history of words, and how their meanings have changed over time (etymology) can be immensely interesting. For example, the canary (bird) is named after the islands from where it originated; The Canary Islands ("Island of the Dogs"). The word canary comes from the Latin "canis" (dog).
