Bald Eagles are
diurnal hunters. They mostly feed on fish and are capable of
seeing fish in the water from several hundred feet above. This one snatched up a fish for lunch.
Bold Eagles are not actually
bald. The word
bald originally meant,
"white patch, blaze, especially on the head of a horse or other animal". The history of words, and how their meanings have changed over time (
etymology) can be immensely interesting. For example, the
canary (bird) is named after the islands from where it originated;
The Canary Islands ("Island of the Dogs"). The word
canary comes from the Latin "canis" (dog).
