Sunset; Newark Liberty Control Tower

Sunset; Newark Liberty Control Tower

The Newark Liberty International Airport was the first major airport in the United States. With a distance of 15 miles from Midtown Manhattan, it is a major hub in the New York City three airport system and is one of the busiest airports in the nation.

An Air Traffic Control Tower is a building from which air traffic around the airport is controlled. The windows of airport control towers are usually tilted outward 15 degrees to prevent reflection of equipment on the glass. Consequently, many control towers have engaging architecture.

This photograph was composed as the sun was aligned with the control tower from a moving car. Although the sunset was just as dramatic moments before, the alignment made the composition.
