One World Trade Center

The One World Trade Center surpassed the Empire State Building as the tallest building in New York at the end of April. By June 2012, the steel structure had been completed for all 104 floors, with glass panels reaching the 86th floor. The building will be installed with a 408 foot radio antenna once construction is completed in summer 2012.

The $3.8 billion construction is paid partially by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. To raise funds, The Port Authority will be hiking bridge and tunnel tolls around the city by 56%. In effect, those of us that travel in and around the city are partially paying for the construction! In NYC it is next to impossible to avoid tolls. Tolls are a form of tacit tax. While wages are stagnating or even regressing, we are being taxed in ever more creative ways...
