I have a Ukrainian-American friend who is closely following the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He has family there. Ukraine has become a geopolitical battlefield between Pro-Russian interests and Pro-Western interests, needless to say, at the expense of Ukrainian people as a whole. If I had to pick a side, I'd pick the people over both Eastern and Western "oligarchs".

Take these two recent news articles. The Patriarch Philaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate explained to his parishioners in Volodymyrsky cathedral in Kyiv that Ukrainian soldiers who are killing "seperatist rebels" in Donbas do not transgress God's commandment 'thou shalt not kill'. And, "Vladimir Zaytsev, a priest from The Russian Orthodox Church 'blessed' some 50 or so camouflaged pro-Russian fighters saying 'Fight against the fascist scum if needed, and I think it will be necessary. Don't be afraid of anything'".

It is likely that both priests are using the 'Just War' doctrine of St. Augustine, "to serve both God and Country honorably by protecting peace and punishing wickedness". What we have here is Orthodox Christian clergy pitching a de-facto Holy War against other Orthodox Christians. Both sides claiming that they are the just ones, "protecting peace" and "punishing evil" "in the name of Jesus Christ". This can not be right?
