Fethiye Lycian Sarcophagus

Fethiye Lycian Sarcophagus

This 4th Century B.C. limestone Lycian Sarcophagus, standing in its original location in downtown Fethiye, is the largest surviving sample of its kind.

It's not exactly clear how the Lyycians conceived afterlife, but it's almost certain that they did. The idea that, once born, the soul or spirit is eternal or immortal is almost universal among world religions. Yes, the concept exists even in Buddhism. Where they differ is in their beliefs about what happens to the soul after the death of the body. The idea of eternity is chilling to me even in a heaven. If boredom is an "essential human condition" as some philosophers claim, multiply that by infinity.
