Pamukkale

Pamukkale (cotton castle) is a historic natural site in Denizli province. Calcium carbonate rich 17 hot water springs in the area feed the terraces of travertines that form the cotton structures. The ancient city of Hierapolis was built in the 3rd century B.C. by Phrygians over the site. The area has been used as a thermal spa since the 2nd century B.C.

Pamukkale was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. The site is a major tourist attraction.
